Discworld Plays

I was the first person - ever - to dramatise any of Terry's work. That was back in 1990, when I started work on 'Wyrd Sisters'. I've now adapted fourteen Discworld books for the amateur stage. Al of them have been published:

WYRD SISTERS, MORT, GUARDS! GUARDS!, MEN AT ARMS, MASKERADE, CARPE JUGULUM, JOHNNY & THE DEAD, THE AMAZING MAURICE AND HIS EDUCATED RODENTS, THE FIFTH ELEPHANT, THE TRUTH, INTERESTING TIMES, MONSTROUS REGIMENT, NIGHT WATCH, JINGO & GOING POSTAL.

Wyrd Sisters, Mort, Guards! Guards! & Men at Arms. These are all published by Transworld Publishers and are readily available from UK book stores and from online stores such as amazon. The amateur rights are controlled by me and anyone thinking about staging one of the plays should contact me straightaway - either at sbriggs@cix.co.uk or by sending a s.a.e. to Stephen Briggs, PO Box 1486, Oxford, OX4 9DQ.

Johnny & the Dead, and The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents. These are published by Oxford University Press and should be easily ordered from any bookstore. Again, I control the amateur rights and groups planning to stage either of these should contact me straightaway.

Maskerade & Carpe Jugulum These are published by Samuel French Ltd. (Samuel French Inc. in the USA). French's also control the amateur rights for these two plays.

All the others are published by Methuen Plays. Methuen control the performing rights for these plays.

What about the other books? If have thoughts about adapting one of the books yourself you should contact me immediately. We strongly recommend groups to stage one of the many published scripts unless there are compelling reasons why they cannot. On Terry's behalf I also administer the licensing of any amateur Discworld shows.

What about Professional Productions? Professional companies should contact Terry's and my agent -
Colin Smythe, Colin Smythe Publishers Ltd, PO Box 6, Gerrards Cross, Bucks, SL9 8XA or email him at CPSmythe@aol.com

Royalties and Performing Rights are Important! Just to stress, there are rules about staging the plays. They're not onerous, Terry and I do aim to be reasonable and the royalties are payable to the Orangutan Foundation. But there are rules. Anyone thinking of staging a Discworld play should contact me as soon as possible - preferably before you spend any significant sums of money!
